Supsakul Mai-ngan, daughter of missing businessman Chaichana Mai-ngan, told police her father drove out to buy groceries in his pickup truck and had yet to return home.

Ms Supsakul, 21, said her father, 67, could had possibly been  abducted.

There were several legal conflicts over land between Mr Chaichana and authorities at Rong Kluea market, she said.

She added that her father recently agreed to sell a block of land that borders Cambodia to a Thai man who owns a casino in Cambodia for 20 million baht. The deal was scheduled to be completed on Monday.

Footage from a security camera at an intersection near Rong Kluea market showed Mr Chaichana's vehicle was pursued by an SUV and another pickup truck as he was leaving the market, police said.

However, the licence plates of the two vehicles were not identifiable in the footage.

Pol Lt Col Yutthapong Tantikul, a police investigative inspector, said police have launched an investigation based on the information provided by Ms Supsakul.

Police could not yet confirm whether Mr Chaichana was abducted because his whereabout  was still unknown, Pol Lt Col Yutthapong said.
