On Wednesday, July 3, Twitter users are remembering author Franz Kafka, who was born on this date in 1883.

Kafka was born in Prague, in what was then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, now the Czech Republic.  He went on to become a renowned author, with works such as "The Trial" and "Metamorphosis" winning international acclaim. Kafka was also one of the leading influences in existentialist writing. He died on June 3, 1924.

Twitter users are commemorating Kafka's birth and discussing a Google Doodle that pays homage to one of his best known works, "Metamorphosis."
