Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is capable of working as a defence minister, and peace talks with the southern separatists should continue, former prime minister Chavalit Yongchaiyudh said on Thursday.
"There shouldn't be any problem with Ms Yingluck concurrently holding the post of defence minister because even if the minister is a woman, it is the duty of men to help and support her," Gen Chavalit said.
He said Gen Yutthasak Sasiprapa would have no problem working as a deputy defence minister.

"Gen Yutthasak should be able to work well with the army because he's a nice person," said the former premier and retired general. Gen Yutthasak was moved from the post of deputy prime minister.
Gen Chavalit said peace dialogue between Thai authorities and the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) southern separatist group should carry on.
Thai authorities were worried about which group they should hold talks with. However, the content of the peace talks was more important, since the meeting results would be passed on to other people connected with the southern situation, he added.
"Considering the conditions proposed by the BRN, I think they want to have an autonomous Pattani state, but it must be under Thai law," Gen Chavalit said.
