The King, wearing an orange jacket, left Siriraj Hospital about 2.30pm to travel to Srichan Pradit temple in Muang district's tambon Bangpu Mai to inspect the water project.
Army chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha, Samut Prakan deputy governor Surachai Angkerdchoke and local officials were present to receive the monarch.
His Majesty then travelled to the Bangpu Recreation Centre, a renowned seaside spot, for a personal leisure visit.
Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn travelled to Bangpu to meet His Majesty the King in the late afternoon.
His Majesty appeared to be healthy and smiled to people who gathered to catch a glimpse of the monarch along his motorcade route.
The Bangpu seaside resort is located just southeast of Bangkok and is popular with tourists.
The area welcomes various types of migratory birds and large flocks of seagulls.
The sight of the birds flying en masse in the blue sky or floating in the sea attracts visitors to witness the spectacle.
