The soaring harmonies and sharp tuxedos of the United States' oldest college a cappella group will burst from the stage in Bangkok next weekend.

The Whiffenpoofs of Yale University will perform at The Sukosol Hotel on July 19 at 8.30pm and The Siam Hotel on July 20 at 7.30pm.

The Whiffenpoofs, 14 talented young men from Yale University, will perform at The Sukosol Hotel on Si Ayutthaya Road on July 19 at 8.30pm and again at The Siam Hotel on Khao Road on July 20 at 7.30pm.

The Whiffenpoofs tour the globe annually, performing their superb harmony entirely without instrumental accompaniment to packed theatres.

The group, named for their light-hearted mood of free and exuberant fancy, is one of the oldest and most famous American a cappella legends. Founded in 1909, the troupe began as a senior quintet but quickly became an in-demand tour de force on the musical scene. They have performed for a range of dignitaries, including Mother Teresa, the Dalai Lama and former US presidents including Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton. Prescott Bush, father and grandfather to presidents George H.W. and George W. Bush, was a member, as was songwriting great Cole Porter.

The Whiffenpoofs have appeared on numerous TV shows, including the final episode in season four of Fox's hit TV show Glee.

The group's repertoire draws from a long heritage of original arrangements, including traditional barbershop and jazz standards, pop songs and comedy routines.

Some recent additions to the repertoire include Killing Me Softly (With His Song) by The Fugees, The Boxer by Simon and Garfunkel, Grace Kelly by Mika, Midnight Train To Georgia by Gladys Night and the Pips and The Muppets' The Rainbow Connection.

Tickets for the July 19 performance cost 500 baht including one standard cocktail and 1,500 baht including a cocktail and pre-show buffet dinner. Tickets for the July 20 show cost 1,200 baht inclusive of one hour free-flow cocktails and canapes.
