The troubled Canadian performer was 31.

His body was found at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel, Canadian media said, quoting Vancouver police. Initial reports said Monteith's death was due to an overdose, but the Vancouver Police Department has not confirmed this.

A statement by Vancouver police said Monteith checked into the hotel on July 6 and was due to check out on Saturday. The hotel staff discovered his body after he missed his check-out time.

Vancouver police ruled out foul play. An autopsy is scheduled on Monday, Vancouver time.

In April, Monteith admitted himself to a treatment facility voluntarily for substance addiction. The programme reportedly ended April 26.

Monteith was born in Calgary, Alberta, raised in Victoria, British Columbia, and started a TV and movie career in Vancouver before being cast as Finn Hudson on the US musical series Glee in 2009.
