A special event for English speakers on Asanha Bucha Day, July 22, will be held at the Indus restaurant on Sukhumvit Soi 26.

Resident British Buddhist monk Phra Pandit Cittasamvaro will lead the proceedings held to mark the Asanha Bucha Day at Indus restaurant on July 22.

On this important Buddhist holiday most Thais head to the temples for circumambulations, meditation and dhamma talks.

The day commemorates the Buddha's first teaching, the Dhammacakka Sutta, in which the Four Noble Truths were laid out. This is the foundation of all schools of Buddhism worldwide.

The event at Indus aims to improve foreigners' understanding of this important piece of Thai and Buddhist culture. Proceedings will be led by British Buddhist monk Phra Pandit Cittasamvaro and other English-speaking monks. There will be a talk on the nature and importance of the Dhammacakka Sutta, a short recitation of it and a short guided meditation.

It will end with a ceremonial rice offering into the monks bowls. Proceedings run from 9.30am to noon. The event is free of charge and reservations are not required.
