Khamronwit chided for Thaksin meet

Bangkok police chief Pol Lt Gen Khamronwit Thoopkrachang acted inappropriately and damaged the police force's credibility in meeting ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra last year, the Ombudsman has found.

The Green Politics group asked the Ombudsman to probe whether Pol Lt Gen Khamronwit had breached police ethics.

He and Thaksin met in Hong Kong last year. After meeting Thaksin, the city police chief placed a framed photo of himself with Thaksin on his office wall with a message that reads "I can have 'today' because you gave it to me".

Suriyasai Katasila, coordinator of the Green Politics Group, said Sunday the Ombudsman wrote to the group earlier this month to inform it of the probe result, which found Pol Lt Gen Khamronwit's behaviour could raise public doubts about the neutrality of the justice system.

The Ombudsman also sent the result to national police chief Adul Saengsingkaew and demanded he take action against Pol Lt Gen Khamronwit within 30 days, Mr Suriyasai said.
