Heavy rain, flash floods alert

The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department on Tuesday afternoon issued a warning for people in the Central Plains, East and western parts of the South to prepare for heavy rain from today until July 22.

People living near hillsides and waterways in Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Nakhon Nayok, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat, Petchaburi, Prachuab Khiri Khan, Ranong, Pangnga, Phuket, Krabi and Trang should prepare for heavy rain, possible flash flooding, forest run-off and mudslides from today to next Monday, July 16-22, it warned.

There will also be strong wind-generated waves in the Andaman Sea and the upper part of the Gulf of Thailand. All ships should proceed with caution and small boats should keep ashore during the period, the department said.
