Jakkrit Panichpatikum had to be detained in the Military Court as he is a sergeant-major first class based at the Second Army Region, said Col Parithas Pongpanich, an officer with the Judge Advocate General's Department.

SM 1 Jakkrit did not inform police about his military rank when he was arrested, Col Parithas said. His case would be handled under Military Court procedures, the officer added.

Col Saravuth Chindakham, superintendent of the Min Buri police station, confirmed the transfer in discussions with soldiers from the department waiting to take him from police who had taken Jakkrit from the Min Buri Court.

The former member of the national pistol-shooting team at the Olympic Games in London in 2012 allegedly fired a gun into the air at his family home on July 11 to intimidate his wife, Nitawadee Pucharoenyos and mother, Bunchit Panichpatikum.

Police detained the father of two on July 13 at a friend's house in the Phatthanakan area after he broke his pledge to surrender to them.

His arrest followed a complaint lodged with Min Buri police by Mrs Bunchit and Mrs Nitawadee on July 11. Investigators also found four firearms at his house in Min Buri district the next day.

Other charges filed by police include assaulting and intimidating his wife and mother; illegal possession of firearms and carrying them in public; owning unregistered firearms; committing violent acts; resisting a blood test to determine whether he had used drugs; and intimidating others.
