They put up a 10-metre-long piece of white cloth for the protesters and supporters to write anti-government messages demanding the ouster of important figures, particularly Deputy Defence Minister Yuthasak Sasiprapa over the controversial audio clip purportedly said to be a conversation between him and deposed prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

The white masks issued a statement saying they would not move to the arts and cultural centre as they usually do because an exhibition was being held there.

Police were deployed to maintain law and order and facilitate traffic flows.

There were no reports of violence or clashes with rival groups.
