B20,000 bounty in rice fraud

Rice farmers in Phichit have offered a reward of 20,000 baht for information leading to the arrests of four people alleged to be responsible for the disappearance of 12,000 tonnes of rice almost two months ago.

Phichit governor Jakkarin Plienwong said on Friday that the four being sought were Munin Chantra, Nattariya Boonkua, Nattakit Ananchalin and Supachok Nateetong. All of them worked at L-Gold Manufacture Co, a milling business, he added.

The 20,000-baht reward for each suspect was contributed by a group of rice farmers in Phichit, the governor said.

In June, police declared that 12,000 tonnes of rice were missing from warehouses operated by L-Gold. About 200 farmers had pledged their rice with the company.

Mr Jakkarin said a fund had been set up to aid the troubled farmers. It had received a total of 2.6 million baht in donations as of Friday, he said.

A decision on how the funds will be used would be made by the end of July, he added.
