Angry Birds hatch juice drinks in Southeast Asia

The first Angry Birds juice drinks for Southeast Asia will be launched in Thailand, bringing a new dimension to the juice market.

Jyrki Komulainen (centre), the chief executive of Just Drink It’s Thai unit, and Laongdao Bunnag (second from left), CP All’s deputy general manager for business networking management, attend Friday’s official launch of Angry Birds juice drinks in Thailand.

The company behind the product, Just Drink It Co, has partnered with manufacturer Malee Sampran Plc and distributor Durbell Ltd on three flavours to be sold nationwide exclusively at 7-Eleven convenience stores, which are operated in Thailand by CP All Plc.

Angry Birds juice drinks are packaged in vibrant cans featuring three characters from the popular video game.

The three flavours are fruit punch, represented by the character Red; orange, represented by Chuck; and strawberry, represented by Stella.

Jyrki Komulainen, the chief executive of Just Drink It's Thai unit, said the country was selected for its love of fun, colourful products, growing population and central position in Southeast Asia.

"We believe that the initial range will be attractive to children and young adults, and once we've firmly established the product range in Thailand, we'll look to expand into other Asean countries," he said, adding that sales of 10 million of the juice drinks are expected this year.
