Beauty upbeat on profits

Beauty Community Plc, the SET-listed cosmetics and skincare-product manufacturer and distributor, is maintaining its growth targets of 30% for sales and 20% for net profit despite the looming economic slowdown in the second half of this year.

Chief executive Suwin Kraibhubes said the targets are achievable because of the company's promotional campaigns and outlet expansion plan.

Beauty's sales last year amounted to 778 million baht for a net profit of 174 million.

In this year's first quarter, Beauty achieved sales of 233 million baht for a net profit of 54.2 million.

It plans to increase the number of its Beauty Buffet shops to 180 from 160 by the end of this year, while its Beauty Cottage network will increase to 50 outlets from 43.

Beauty will also expand to Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos.

Its first shops in Vietnam and Laos will open this year, while it is seeking a location for its shop in Cambodia and negotiating to open one in Myanmar.

The company is in talks to put its products in King Power duty-free shops, which would give it more access to foreign tourists, particularly Chinese, Mr Suwin said.

The company launched its first Beauty Market in Bangkok's Seacon Square to distribute both its own cosmetic brands and others from South Korea, Japan, Europe and the US.

It plans to open a total of three Beauty Market shops this year.

If they are successful, the company will expand them into the regional market.

Mr Suwin said the profit margin from Beauty Markets will be lower than those from other brand shops under its umbrella, but the concept provides customers with a full array of cosmetics products and expands sales channels.

Shares of BEAUTY closed Friday on the Stock Exchange of Thailand at 24.40 baht, down 10 satang, in trade worth 17.5 million baht.
