Centre to monitor Transport Co buses

The Land Transport Department is opening a centre to manage state-owned interprovincial buses which have Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking devices installed.

The centre will monitor the safety of buses operated by state-run Transport Co which are equipped with GPS (Global Positioning System), Chirute Visalachitr, the department's deputy director-general said.

The GPS devices have been installed in 731 of Transport Co's 800 buses.

The rest are old buses that are being replaced by new ones which also will have the tracking technology. About 150 department staff have been trained in the bus tracking system.

A recent study by King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi showed the main factor behind road accidents involving buses was drivers' road habits, Mr Chirute said.
