Japanese man in Bangkok death fall

A 53-year old Japanese man plunged to his death overnight in the Ploenchit Centre building on Sukhumvit Road, soi 2, Klong Toey district of Bangkok, police said on Monday morning.

The police said his body was discovered by the buiding electrician, Wichitchai Unridthong, when he was doing his rounds and reported about 12.30am.

Police who answered the call found the foreigner lying dead on the ground floor inside the building. The man, wearing jeans and a short-sleeved shirt, had a broken neck, severe spinal injuries and wounds on both feet.

Mr Wichitchai told police he thought that the man was drunk at first, so called a security guard. They realised he was dead and noticed injuries to the man’s feet, so they suspected he was beaten to death.

Pol Lt Col Akrawat Poompaisalchai, a deputy superintendent at Lumpini police station, said pictures from a security camera in the building showed that the man entered the building at 11.30pm on Sunday. He took a lift up to the sixth floor, where the building's food centre is based, and then jumped from the balcony to his death.

The police said they would contact the Japanese embassy to notify his family.
