Ministers discuss South China Sea

Southeast Asian foreign ministers met Wednesday at a Thai beach resort in Hua Hin to discuss conflicts in the South China Sea and other issues related to ties with Beijing.

Of the 10 member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean), only Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Namhong failed to attend the meeting in Hua Hin, 150 kilometres southwest of Bangkok.

The meeting is an informal "brain-storming" session in preparation for two followup meetings in China that will focus on agreeing to a Code of Conduct (COC) to manage territorial disputes in the South China Sea, one of the few bones of contention in the otherwise smooth relations between Beijing and Southeast Asia.
