Hucky eichelmann returns to the kingdom

ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

His concert tours in the Kingdom in 2011 and 2012 drew nearly 20,000 fans to his magical shows and more than 800 students attended his workshops. Now Hucky Eichelmann is back for a new tour held to celebrate HM King Bhumibol's 85th birthday.

Hucky Eichelmann’s six-week Thailand tour will include a concert at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre on Sept 12 at 7pm.

German classical guitarist will be performing at nine venues in nine provinces from Tuesday until Sept 27. He will stop by Bangkok for one performance at the auditorium on the 5th floor of Bangkok Art and Culture Centre on Sept 12 at 7pm.

This year's tour aims to honour HM the King, a gifted jazz musician and composer, by showcasing his royal compositions including Still On My Mind, Never Mind The HM (Hungry Men's) Blues and Oh I Say, along with a variety of music from around the world.

Another highlight will be Eichelmann's collaboration with students from the broader community to appear as guest performers at selected venues.

Besides the concerts, Eichelmann will conduct workshops and masterclasses that focus on the King's compositions, free of charge. These will be held in Chiang Rai, Phetchabun, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham and Phatthalung where enthusiastic and loyal crowds of regular students are expected.

Eichelmann's popularity in Thailand is closely associated with the music of His Majesty the King. His efforts to help popularise His Majesty's music throughout the world are well known.

He was the first foreign guitarist to have recorded His Majesty's music on his bestselling albums Kuen Nueng, Candlelight Blues and Sweet Words. He has been praised as musical ambassador for His Majesty and Privy Councillor ML Usni Pramoj recognised him as an indefatigable champion of His Majesty's music.

Tickets for the Chiang Mai show on Aug 22 cost 200 baht and can be purchased by calling 053-943-625.

Tickets for the Bangkok performance on Sept 12 cost 1,200 baht (600 baht for students) and are available from Thai Ticket Major booths (call 02-262-3456 or visit www.thaiticketmajor.com).
