Police station shooter arrested at border

A senior police officer who allegedly sprayed bullets inside a Bangkok police station was arrested on Thursday afternoon in Kanchanaburi, Pol Lt Gen Harnpol Nitwipul, chief of Provincial Police Region 7, said.

He said police in Kanchanaburi's Sangkhla Buri district arrested Pol Lt Col Burin Lalitathada, an inspector with responsibility for administration at Bang Yi Rua police station, as he returned to his car after buying goods in a neighbouring country.

Pol Lt Col Burin was accused of firing his M16 rifle at the investigation room of Khlong Tan police station before leaving the gun and two magazines at the scene and driving away in a Honda SUV.

Inside the vehicle, police found one M-16 rifle, a 9mm Glock pistol and many rounds of ammunition.

The inspector was detained for further questioning.
