Jakkraphun Kanjadara, 34, was apprehended at his house in Bangkok's Ram Intra area.
The victim was discovered on Sunday and identified as Kankanit Suntratta, 42, according to Ayutthaya police. She was found naked and had been burnt, while her mouth, wrists, and ankles were bound with duct tape.
She was last seen leaving her home in a green Nissan hatchback driven by a man on Saturday night, police said.
Mr Jakkraphun told police he was one of Kankanit's friends and admitted that he was the one who picked the victim up from her home on Saturday.
Police believe Mr Jakkraphun killed Kankanit after she loaned him 300,000 baht. She allegedly used strong words when asking the man to repay the debt, which police say could have provoked him.
Mr Jakkraphun confessed that he stripped the woman, tied her up, and left her on a roadside after they argued in the car.
The suspect, however, denied murdering the woman.
Police are to seize the Mr Jakkraphun's vehicle which is being repaired at a garage in the city. They will also take the man to search for Kankanit's clothes before conducting further investigations.
Police meanwhile asked Kankanit's sister to identify belongings that they seized. She confirmed that the fake eyelashes, a small purse and a watch belonged to her murdered sister.
Pol Maj Gen Kornek Phetchaives, superintendent of Ayutthaya police station, said he is confident that the police have got the right man in custody.
