Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Sunday summarised a seven-point framework for the political reform assembly at the end of the inaugural reform forum meeting.
Ms Yingluck announced the seven key points in her closing statement at the first meeting of the political reform forum attended by 57 leading figures from many sectors. The Democrat Party and the yellow-shirt People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) did not send representatives.
The points are: ensuring the strength and stability of constitutional monarchy; reducing and solving social inequalities and poverty; having working mechanisms that are transparent and examinable in line with principles of good governance; creating justice and equality to ensure people’s fundamental rights in line with the rule of law; building democracy through public participation from all sectors and respecting the majority while listening to the minority; creating mutual trust and forgiveness and an environment of trust and prioritising the interests of the public and rightness.
The meeting agreed to set up three working panels covering political, economic and social reform issues and commissioned Chartthaipattana Party chief adviser and veteran politician Banharn Silpa-archa to be the panels’ coordinator.
A detailed report on the meeting will be released within two days along with the announcement of a venue for the assembly office. The next forum meeting will take place in September.
