A US Ski and Snowboard Association spokesman confirmed Vonn was slated to participate in training in Portillo, Chile, after Vonn herself told the Denver Post she had been cleared by her doctor to return to the slopes.
Vonn, a four-time overall World Cup champion, two-time world champion and 2010 Olympic downhill champion, suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and torn medial collateral ligament in her right knee in a crash at the Alpine Skiing World Championships in Schladming, Austria, in February.
After a training session in Vail, Colorado, on Wednesday, Vonn told the Post that she would likely start with free skiing in Portillo and hoped also to run some gates.
Her progress will be monitored by Bill Sterett, who performed reconstructive surgery on her knee in February.
She said she hoped to be ready to race in World Cup races at Beaver Creek in December.
With the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia, scheduled for February 7-23, Vonn is hoping to make a full recovery similar to that of former US speed queen Picabo Street, who came back the season after reconstructive surgery to win an Olympic gold medal in 1998 at Nagano, Japan.
