Gen Prem 'safe, well' in hospital

Privy Council president Gen Prem Tinsulanonda was reported to be "safe" on Friday after being admitted to King Mongkut Hospital in Bangkok on Thursday for treatment for lung inflammation.

His Majesty King and Queen and members of the royal family had sent flower baskets to the statesman at the military hospital, offering him best wishes. The flower baskets were received by representatives of the armed forces.

Privy councilor Gen Phichit Kulvanit and Gen Momgkol Ampornphisit were staying at the hospital to look after Gen Prem.

Maj Gen Chumpol Piemsomboon, director of the hospital, said on Aug 19, Gen Prem came to the hospital for a physical health checkup.

Doctors found that a scar from past lung surgery was inflamed and further surgery was needed.

Gen Prem was admitted to hospital on Thursday as scheduled, and the operation was successful. He was now again in good health, the hospital director said.

Maj Gen Chumpol said Gen Prem will stay in the hospital for about one week.
