Man, 82, weds 65-year-old woman

An 82-year-old man married a woman 17 years his junior in Si Sa Ket on Sunday.

Phrom Wannawong, left, and Nongnuch Pho-ngam get married on Sunday in Si Sa Ket province.

Phrom Wannawong, the groom, told reporters at a wedding ceremony at his home that he had a wife who passed away on May 12 this year and his only son, aged 45, had also died, leaving nobody to take care of him.

Nongnuch Pho-ngam, the bride, said she had divorced her former husband 20 years ago. They had three children but all of them worked in a restaurant in Sweden.

Mr Phrom said he fell in love with Nongnuch the first time he saw her about a month ago. She was introduced to him by her relatives.

Ms Nongnuch said that before she accepted Mr Phrom's proposal, she felt for him because he had no one to look after him.

"I think I was his child in the past life so I've agreed to marry him," the bride said. "At first I planned to get married at the end of the Buddhist Lent period but the groom wanted to marry me sooner after we've just got to know each other for a month."

She said she phoned her children about her marriage and they supported her decision.

Prawit Kamchan, Mr Phrom's grandson, said his grandfather frequently travelled on his bicycle to meet Ms Nongnuch at her home. Mr Phrom's relatives were happy for the couple, he said.
