A major solo exhibition from artist Kornkrit Jianpinidnan will be both here and elsewhere, no matter whether you attend at H Gallery's Bangkok gallery or its one in Chiang Mai.

Worry And Love by Kornkrit Jianpinidnan.

"'Elsewhere' begins here and vice-versa" can be seen at both venues from Thursday until Oct 27.

H Gallery Bangkok will show Kornkrit's photography, text and drawings from four series, including the celebrated Worry And Love, while the Chiang Mai venue hosts a video installation.

The title of the exhibition is taken from an essay on cities by Paul Virilio and suggests perpetual dislocation. It was inspired by Kornkrit's early memories of moving to the capital, and places and spaces form the predominant motifs of the artworks.

Kornkrit skirts confessional or individualised modes of expression to instead examine the idea of what it means to look back or experience melancholia.

He employs found imagery and references to movies as well as explores a visual analogy to memory through the method of digitally erasing elements of photographs, to near-seamless effect.

The essential theme of the exhibition is desire _ whether it is invoked by memories, encoded in spaces or provoked by images.

Both shows are installed in a way that emphasise the experience of space and time as unfolding. Like memory, the exhibitions are by turns revealing and hazy, and intimate yet unreachable.

H Gallery Bangkok is on Sathon Soi 12 and opens daily except Tuesdays from 10am to 6pm. H Gallery Chiang Mai is located 700m beyond the Tiger Kingdom in Mae Rim and opens by appointment only from Sunday to Tuesday. Call 085-021-5508.
