PM's dep sec to see growers in South

PM's deputy secretary-general Pol Maj Gen Tawat Boonfueng will today travel to the South to meet with rubber planters rallying in Nakhon Si Thammrat province for talks.

Pol Maj Gen Tawat said on Tuesday he has been assigned by security and other agencies  to represent the government in the talks.

He said he would leave for Nakhon Si Thammarat after today's cabinet meeting to join interior permanent secretary Wiboon Sanguanpong, who is already in the province.

If no agreement could be reached with the protesters, he would invite rubber planters representatives to Bangkok for talks with government authorities led by Deputy Prime Minister Kittiratt Na Ranong at the Centara Hotel and the government offices complex on Chaeng Wattana Road on Wednesday, Sept 4, at 2pm.

The government wanted representatives of the rubber growers to get full information on measures to be taken and together reach a settlement on rubber prices.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra would not join in the talks as she has assigned Mr Kittiratt to act on her behalf, Pol Maj Gen Tawat said.

As a precaution, metropolitan police have been deployed in the vicinity of the Government House to ensure law and order.
