The website of the Internal Trade Department was hacked early Thursday morning by "Dz4Hack", but officials said the site was not damaged and back to normal by 9am.
A black penguin is posted on hacked website of Department of Internal Trade on Thursday morning .
The hacker of http://www.dit.go.th/ posted an image of a black penguin and a message saying that the website had been hacked by Dz4Hack, DZ Information Mafia Team.
Wiboonlasana Ruamraksa, the department’s director-general, said only the homepage was affected. No information was altered.
The department’s own web managers suspected the site had been hacked from overseas. The Information and Communication Technology Ministry has been asked to investigate.
The Internal Trade Department is responsible for farm products and prices of local goods, and compiles the consumer price index movement announced monthly as the gauge of inflation.
A source at the Commerce Ministry said earlier a phone caller had threatened to throw acid at Vatchari Vatchari Vimooktayon, the permanent secretary of commerce.
Officials suspected the threat was related to Ms Vatchari’s comments about the consumer price index and inflation on Monday and the “feelings” of consumers about the rising cost of living.
Ms Vatchari said the caller complained that food actually is more expensive, and that the increased cost is a fact, not just a “feeling”.
The permanent secretary tried to explain that she had simply been releasing information her department had compiled about the inflation rate at a press conference.
