ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

Elle Fashion Film Festival kicks off today for the public at SFX Cinema, Emporium, and runs until Sunday.

The nine films in the programme have been chosen either because they're about fashion and the fashion industry, or because they use clothes as a major element in telling the story to define the characters.

A Single Man, Tom Ford's directorial debut, is showing tonight at 8pm. The film stars Colin Firth as a gay man trying to cope with the death of his lover.

Tomorrow at 8pm is Blancanieves, a retelling of Snow White in black-and-white, set in the matador circuit of rural Spain.

On Thursday at 8pm is I Am Love, an Italian drama starring Tilda Swinton as a middle-aged woman who falls for the friend of her son.

The next night, Friday, comes L'amour Fou, a documentary about Yves Saint Laurent as told by his partner in life and in business, Pierre Berge.

On Saturday, there are three films. At 2pm is Face, a lush, abstract film set in and around The Louvre and directed by Taiwanese auteur Tsai Ming-liang. At 5pm is the Chinese film Color Me Love, which takes us behind the scene of Beijing's fashion circle. And at 8pm is Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky, a French-language film about the two icons in fashion and music who have a brief affair in the 1920s.

On Sunday, there are two films. At 3pm is Heartbreaks, a Canadian film about three teenagers and their love triangle. And the festival closes at 8pm with Farewell My Queen, starring Lea Seydoux as a servant of Marie Antoinette on the eve of the French Revolution.

Elle Fashion Film Festival 2013 is on until Sunday at SFX Cinema, Emporium.
Tickets cost 150 baht per seat, with 184 seats available per movie.
