Warning: Heavy rain, flash floods

The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department on Tuesday issued a severe weather warning for people in 26 provinces in the North, Northeast and South.

Chatchai Promlert, the department’s director general, warned that people living near hillsides and waterways in Tak, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, Uttaradit, Phetchabun, Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Son, Lampang, Lamphun, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Phrae, Nan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Udon Thani, Nongkhai, Bueng Khan, Nong Bua Lamphu, Loei, Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi and Trang should brace for heavy rain, flash flooding, forest run-off and possible landslides over the next five days, Sept 11-15.

People in risk areas should closely follow the weather forecast and disaster warnings, and strictly comply with the advice given by the department, Mr Chatchai said.

There will also be strong wind-generated waves in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. All shipping should proceed with caution and small boats should remain ashore during this period, he added.
