TRANG - Hat Chao Mai National Park will be closed until the end of the month after being hit by heavy downpours and waves more than two metres high.
Manoch Wongsureerat, director of the national park, ordered its closure on Tuesday for safety reasons.
The park on the Andaman coast of Trang covers picturesque islands, mountains, beaches, canals and caves, including the Emerald Cave, a popular site for tourists.
Mr Manoch said small tour boat operators had been warned that they will not be able to ask for compensation from insurance companies if they persist in transporting sightseers to the islands inside the park this month and an accident occurs.
Cruise ships, however, may go through some parts of the area at their own risk depending on the weather condition.
Aside from safety issues, the closure will also give the park time to recover from the recent extreme weather, Mr Manoch said.
