ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

Welcome to Guru 's Gate Crasher, your ultimate guide to finding something fresh to do in this big city.

DJ

Begin the weekend right tonight (Sep 13) with an old fashioned dance floor smash up courtesy of Miguel Migs. He's from San Fran and delivers more than the usual housey doldrums; a little deeper and twisted, that is. Support will come from Dan Buri and Cello. It's on at Q Bar (34 Sukhumvit Soi 11, 02-252-3274, www.qbarbangkok.com). Entry is B600 with a drink, and they're doing two for one drinks before midnight, which helps. Sneak back into Le Derriere for a shot of absinthe to start the heart.

PARTY

Trasher is also getting trashy tonight (Sep 13), doing what it does best with a party down at Sonic (90 Sukhumvit Soi 63, 02-382-3395, facebook.com/pages/SONICekamai). Same formula, same crew, good rainbow times. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Entry is B200.

SKATER LAUNCH

The Preduce skate crew are putting on an event on Sat (Sep 14) down at their retail bunker in Siam Square (218/9 Siam Square Soi 1, 086-045-5784, www.preduce.com) titled Preduce X SBTG "Asphalt Surfers". It's the launch of a deck series and clothing capsule collection, whipping up some hype for the collaboration with the Singaporean artist. They will put out some drinks, food and tunes. It starts at 5pm and it's free.

ART EXHIBITION

The artistic outing of the weekend happens on Sat (Sep 14) at the launch of the "mini solo exhibition" My Pointed Oval by local artist Kahat Sujipisut. It's on at Soul Space, Yoga Studio and Art Gallery (Silom Soi 19, 087-816-5338, facebook.com/SoulSpaceSilom19). Entry is free and will start around 6pm. Art will be up until Oct 25.

PARTY

The molam specialists are having another shindig on Sat (Sep 14) after their international ramblings. Isan Dancehall will fill the Cosmic Cafe (RCA Block C, Rama IX, 081-304-6907) confines with the finest of the north-eastern twang. DJs for the night will be regulars Maft Sai with special guests Keiichi and Shinsuke. Entry is B350 with a shot of the infamous ya dong potion at the door. Poison or pleasure? You decide.

FILM SCREENING

Ever watched a torrented movie? Odds are you have. The Reading Room (2 Silom Soi 19, facebook.com/thereadingroombkk) will engage The Pirate Bay's 10 year anniversary on Sun (Sep 15) with a screening of film TPB: AFK followed by a talk from Atip Jittarirk. FYI: AFK is geek talk for "away from keyboard", just so you know and feel involved. The doco focuses on the three founders of the controversial website and was funded by a Kickstart campaign. Entry is free. The film is in English, but the talk ain't.
