Resort, B120m drug assets seized

Narcotics suppression and provincial police on Wednesday seized a luxury resort, houses and other assets worth about 120 million baht from a drug suspect who was arrested on Tuesday with 7,000 methamphetamine pills in his possession.

The assets seizure, led by Pol Gen Pongsapat Pongcharoen, secretary-general of the Office of the Narcotic Control Board (ONCB), was carried out by Narcotic Suppression Bureau police and Region 7 provincial police.

Police arrested Chairat Noothong, 50, in a sting operation on Tuesday when they found 6,000 methamphetamine pills hidden in his car.

Police discovered another 1,000 speed pills in a subsequent search of Kinnaree Resort and Spa in tambon Wang Pong in Prachuap Khiri Khan's Pran Buri district, which belongs to Mr Chairat.

Mr Chairat's arrest led to today's seizure of his assets.

According to ONCB and NSB records, Mr Chairat was a major drug dealer in Prachuap Khiri Khan.  He ordered methamphetamine pills from Tachilek in Myanmar for sale in the province, using Kinnaree Resort and Spa as a front for the drug trade.
