Thais most worried about political rift

More than half of the people surveyed by Suan Dusit Poll are concerned about the continuing political conflict.

The study was conducted between Sept 16 and 21 and involved 1,344 respondents nationwide.

Ofthose polled, 57.25% were worried about the political situation, followed by corruption and favouritism (27.17%) and the improper behaviour of politicians (15.58%).

When asked how the political situation can be improved, 40.07% said eligible voters will have to vote for good and capable people to work for the country, 34.2% said people need to be neutral, reasonable and unbiased, while the remaining 25.73% believed people should contribute ideas and take part in activities that promote democracy.

On the economy, 50.69% were worried about the rising cost of living, followed by debt and insufficient earnings (30.34%), and low prices for agricultural goods and the poor economy (18.97%).

Almost half, 45.27%, believe the economy can improve if people save more and spend less and live self-sufficiently, while 40.16% said people should buy and use more Thai products, and 14.57% said people can help improve the economy by not exploiting others.

On social issues, 43.21% said they were concerned that people lacked unity and were divided, while 32.1% said they were worried about people who took advantage of others and lacked kindness, while the remaining 24.69% were worried about crime and the safety of life and property.

On ways to improve Thai society, 43.03% suggested that people should be good, honest and respect the law, while 32.49% reckoned that people should be kind and nice to each other, and 24.48% stressed the importance of a healthy family and said parents should teach their children to be good people and love their country.
