Suvarnabhumi limits electric carts

Suvarnabhumi airport has halved the number of electric carts operating within the terminal after receiving complaints they were being used to illegally carry passengers and had caused accidents.

Suvarnabhumi Airport will keep out some of electric cart similar to this one.

The electric carts, owned by state agencies, major airlines and Suvarnabhumi Power Service Co, are intended to carry VIP guests and criminal suspects detained by immigration police.

However, Suvarnabhumi airport director Rawewan Netrakavesna said there have been reports of the electric carts hitting passengers, and of carts transporting tourists around the terminal in return for cash when not licensed to do so.

Their numbers have been cut from 54 to 27, Ms Rawewan said.

"The airport needs to reduce the number of carts so only those that are truly necessary are in use," she said.

However, Immigration Bureau chief Pol Lt Gen Panu Kerdlappol said the electric carts no longer take tourists, as authorities have wiped out the problem.
