Bandit nets B100k in bank heist

A lone gunman robbed a Siam Commercial Bank branch in Pathum Thani’s Khlong Luang district on Sunday afternoon and made off with about 100,00 baht in cash.

The bandit posed as a customer waiting in line to carry out a transaction and then took only five minutes to rob the bank in the Nawanakhon branch of Big C supermarket and escaped with 100,900 baht.

Jutharat Klinpayorm, a 26-year-old teller, said after she finished assisting a woman customer, she saw the robber, who was waiting next to her, wearing a black full-face balaclava, which he had just pulled over his face. He was also wearing a camouflage army jacket and a pair of jeans, and was tall. He pointed a gun at her and ordered her in an Isaan accent to stuff banknotes from the counter into the bag in his hand.

The gunman then shouted and threatened everyone in the bank, including an unarmed security guard, to stay away from him before fleeing, Ms Jutharat said.

Footage from surveillance cameras at the bank and the supermarket showed the robber’s face clearly, police said. He ran out of the bank to a black and red Honda Click motorcycle. He used the motorcycle, which did not have a licence plate, to flee along Phaholyothin Road.

Police said they were questioning the bank staff and other people, including the security guard who failed to intercept the robbery.
