A Thai man was one of the two foreign workers killed in a construction accident involving crane collapse in Singapore on Monday morning, Department of Employment chief Prawit Kiangpol said.
The dead Thai worker was identified as Charnyut Somkote, 50, from Nakhon Phanom.
He was working for Singapore-based Yongnam Engineering & Construction (Pte) Ltd through a Thai recruitment company when the accident occurred at the construction site for the new National Art Gallery on Coleman Street.
Charnyut’s family will receive 40,000 baht and funeral expenses from the assistance fund for Thai workers abroad, of which he was a member, Mr Prawit said.
Charnyut and a Bangladesh worker were killed and three others injured when a crane fell over at the building site for Singapore’s future National Art Gallery.
According to witnesses, the crane's counter balance mechanism failed while the machine was attempting to lift building materials.
