Poll: Dam plan should be reviewed

A large majority of people surveyed think the Mae Wong Dam project in Nakhon Sawan province should be reviewed and most do not think its construction would help solve the problem of flooding, according to Abac Poll.

The poll was conducted between Sept 24-Oct 2 and involved 2,140 people throughout the country, surveying their opinions on the government's Mae Wong Dam project.

To the question whether they thought the dam would help solve the flood problem, 59.5% of the respondents said they did not think so, while 40.5% thought it would.

Most repondents, 81.1%, said the project should be put on hold and reviewed,  but the rest said it should go ahead as planned right away.

Asked who they thought would benefit the most from the dam's construction , 59.4% mentioned politicians, their academic advisers and state officials, 24.8% pointed to capital groups and 15.8% said the people in general would.
