2.9 million Adobe accounts hacked

Software company Adobe, which makes and sells popular software such as Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat, said Thursday that hackers had stolen the data and credit card details of 2.9 million customers.

In a further blow to the company, the unidentified hackers also stole the source code for a number of Adobe products.

"Adobe's security team recently discovered sophisticated attacks on our network, involving the illegal access of customer information as well as source code for numerous Adobe products," the company said in a customer security alert.

"We believe these attacks may be related. We are working diligently internally, as well as with external partners and law enforcement, to address the incident."

The company said it had contacted affected customers via email with details on how to reset their accounts.
