Folk's game-winning kick helps Jets edge Falcons

Nick Folk booted the game-winning 43-yard field goal as time expired to lift the New York Jets to a 30-28 victory over Atlanta in the lone National Football League contest.

Rookie quarterback Geno Smith threw for three touchdowns and led the final drive down the field to set the stage for Folk's winning kick at the Georgia Dome stadium.

Smith completed three consecutive passes for 34 total yards and scrambled for eight more yards to reach Atlanta's 38-yard line.

He then handed the ball to Bilal Powell who charged downfield to set up Folk's game-winner.

The Jets final drive came after Atlanta quarterback Matt Ryan had guided the Falcons to a pair of fourth-quarter scores to erase a 27-14 deficit.

The second touchdown came on a three-yard pass to Levine Toilolo after a defensive holding penalty kept the drive alive with two minutes left.

Smith played mistake-free and threw three touchdown passes while completing 16-of-20 passes for 199 yards in the first road victory of his young career. Heading into Monday's game, Smith had been charged with 11 turnovers this season.

Jeff Cumberland had three receptions for 79 yards and a touchdown for New York, who improved to 3-2 on the season.

Atlanta has dropped three in a row for the first time since 2007 -- the year before Ryan took over as quarterback.

Ryan completed 36-of-45 passes for 319 yards while Tony Gonzalez had 10 catches for 97 yards in the loss.
