Prinya Rakwathin, managing director of Chao Phraya Express Boat Co, told a radio station that the company is monitoring rising water levels in the river and has instructed staff to check life-jackets and other safety equipment, to ensure passengers are safe in case of emergency.

The company has also told its boat drivers to be careful and limit their speed to 25km per hour.

He said the company is working closely with the Royal Irrigation Department and will suspend boat services temporarily if it finds that water levels are too high.

Earlier, Bangkok governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra said current forecasts indicate that the Chao Phraya River could rise to two metres above sea level around Oct 15-16.
