Speed pills seized, 2 arrested

A woman and a man were arrested on possession charges in separate raids on Thursday and a total of 100,000 methamphetamine pills seized, Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) secretary-general Pongsapat Pongcharoen announced at a press conference on Thursday.

In both cases, the drugs were sent from the North via private parcel delivery service companies.

In the first action, narcotic suppression officials arrested Naowarat Kraison, 39, with 20,000 methamphetamine pills at her house in Samut Prakan's Bang Phli district.

The arrest was made after the officials learned that the drugs had been sent in a parcel through NTC Company from Chiang Rai to its branch in Nakhon Sawan, and the receiver was Mrs Naowarat.

Mrs Naowarat allegedly confessed to having been hired by Suthon Thiranant for 5,000 baht to claim the parcel.

In a separate raid, Voravech Sithae, 27, a Chinese Haw tribesman, was arrested with 80,000 speed pills in Prawet district of Bangkok. The drugs were sent to Bangkok from the North through Kerry Express Company to a man named Itthipol Nahom.

Mr Voravech said he was hired by dealers in several communities to receive the drugs. The name Itthipol Nahom was a fake, he said, according to police.

The two were charged with having illicit drugs in their possession with intent to sell.

Pol Gen Pongsapat said drug traders have recently begun using private transport or delivery services to send drugs to clients.

A large amount of drugs were seized after being sent to Nim Si Seng Company in Pathum Thani in late September.
