Players, coaches awarded royal decorations

His Majesty the King has awarded royal decorations to players and officials of the Thai women's volleyball team for winning the Asian title.

The Thai women’s volleyball team receives one million baht from Thai Union Frozen Products for winning the Asian title.

The announcement was published in the Royal Gazette yesterday after the team defeated Japan 3-0 in the Asian Championship final in Nakhon Ratchasima last month.

The Thais also defeated China in the semi-finals on their way to winning their second Asian crown after their success in 2009.

The players who receive the Commander (Third Class) of the Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant are Wanna Buakaew, Pleumjit Thinkaow, Amporn Hyapha, Nootsara Tomkom, Wilavan Apinyapong, Onuma Sittirak, Malika Kanthong, Tapaphaipun Chaisri, Piyanut Pannoy, Thatdao Nuekjang, Pornphan Kernprat and Atcharaporn Kongyot.

The officials who are awarded the same class of royal decorations are head coach Kiattipong Radchatakriangkrai, Nattaphon Srisamutnak and Danai Sriwatcharamethakul.

Pisit Nathee receives the Commander (Third Class) of the Most Noble Order of the Crown of Thailand, Krittapol Pithayachai the Most Noble Order of the Crown of Thailand, and Thipayarat Kaewsai the Companion (Fourth Class) of the Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant.

A total of 18 people are on the list.
