Two of the men succumbed to their injuries in hospital a short time after the shooting. The third man attempted to flee, was chased down, riddled with bullets and his body left lying on the street

Pol Lt Jaturon Sanguanprasit, a case officer at Kabin Buri police station, said Tawatchai Utbut, 32, was found dead about 100 metres from the bar. He had been shot 11 times.

Somrak Ratanamora, 32, was shot in the body and Sunthorn Songlub, 34, the bar owner, was hit in the head. Both succumbed to their injuries at Kabin Buri Hospital.

Rat Prommaree, the deceased shop owner’s wife, told police that four men came into the shop for drinks. Three other men later arrived there in a white Honda Jazz with no licence plate.

Two individuals wearing hygiene masks exited the car, walked to the bar and opened fire, she said. Her husband and Somrak were shot and fell to the ground, while Tawatchai was able to run outside.

The gunmen caught up with Tawatchai and gunned him down.

Ms Rat said the attackers then went back to the Honda hatchback and fled, heading towards tambon Muang Kao.

Police said a preliminary investigation revealed that Tawatchai had been dealing with a major drug network and was once convicted of a drug charge.

Investigators  believed the shooting stemmed from a conflict between Tawatchai and the drug traffickers.
