Flooding death toll now 68

A total of 68 people were confirmed dead in the floods that have hit 359 districts in 46 provinces since Sept 17, Chatchai Promlert, director general of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department, said on Thursday.

The department on Tuesday, Oct 15, reported the death toll at 61.

The floodwater had receded in 24 provinces, Mr Chatchai said.

As of Thursday, flooding continues in 4,109 villages in 93 districts of 22 provinces, effecting 674,952 people of 236,757 households, he said.

The provinces facing the most severe floods are Prachin Buri and Chachoengsao.

Less serious flooding is affecting Ayutthaya, Nakhon Nayok, Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Buri Ram and Ubon Ratchathani.

Mild floods are still present in Phitsanulok, Phichit, Chaiyaphum, Si Sa Ket, Saraburi, Lopburi, Angthong, Suphanburi, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Chonburi, Samut Prakan, Nakhon Pathom and Phetchaburi.
