Mini-cabinet to meet on ISA extension

Mini-cabinet to meet on ISA extension

A mini-cabinet will meet tomorrow to decide whether to extend use of the Internal Security Act (ISA) now in force in three Bangkok districts around parliament and Government House, National Security Council chief Paradorn Pattanatabut said on Thursday.

The NSC chief made the announcement after a meeting of security agencies assessing the current anti-government protest at Uruphong intersection.

He said a mini-cabinet meeting tomorrow would decide whether to extend the ISA's enforcement beyond Friday, and whether to expand it to cover nearby Uruphong intersection.

Security agencies believed the protest at Uruphong was unlikely to end soon, Lt Gen Paradorn said.

Uthai Yodmanee, leader of the Network of Students and People for Reform of Thailand, said Tuesday that the demonstrators would move eslewhere only if it became unsafe for them to continue their rally at Uruphong intersection.

Police has asked the protesters to move to nearby Supachalasai Stadium.
