ART SHOW
Big art space in the north of the city V64 is once again showcasing their stable of talent tomorrow (Oct 19) in a group show titled 64 Distinct Harmony 56. It's gonna be a wide-ranging showcase of diverse talents, mediums and concepts offering up something for everyone by the sounds of it. There will also be food, live painting and performance art in what should be a carnival-esque atmosphere. Entry to the art studio (143/19 Soi Chaeng Watthana Soi 1 Yak 6, 02-973-2681, facebook.com/V64art) is free. Things should start around 6:30pm.
Art opening
An interesting exhibition pops tonight (Oct 18) called Villa in the Slums. It's the latest in a swathe of art shows that are filling up the expanding gallery spaces across the city. The exhibition features works from Orawan Arunrak and Phil America that engage the Klong Toey slums that the university sits across the road from, bridging the ironic cultural divide. It's on at Bangkok University Gallery (Rama IV Road, 02-350-3626, facebook.com/bangkokuniversitygallery); from 6pm. Entry is free and there will be a free ya dong bar and DJs. Art will be up through Nov 30 if you can't make it tonight.
PARTY
The clubbing option tonight (Oct 18) comes in the form of an invitation to bed, this time In Bed with Space. The bimonthly event (every two months, that is) returns for this instalment with German deck rocker DJ Homeaffairs. Venue is Q Bar (34 Sukhumvit Soi 11, 02-252-3274, www.qbarbangkok.com). Entry is B600 (two drinks), or B800 with two drinks and entry to after party at Bash. Show up before 1am and receive a free Space compilation CD. Should be a good warm-up for the big Ku De Ta opening tomorrow night (Oct 19), but keep that one under wraps.
FASHION ART
With the smooth running of Elle Fashion Week last week, a smaller profile but just as interesting fashion/art event, Here is the Zine, will happen on Tue (Oct 22). Starting in Japan, it's a collaborative affair, this time with local multi-label store next to NORMAL. It's the first time the event has been held outside Japan so props to them/us/all. It's on at the store (1/F, Atrium Zone, CentralWorld), at 7pm. Entry is free. Art will be up for a month.
LIVE GIG
A big treat for live music fans comes tomorrow evening (Oct 19) with the appearance of US singer-songwriter Adam Green in the city. He's known for his "anti-folk" aesthetic, but hark back to the songwriting traditions of blues and country with his strong storytelling element, even though he dabbles across genre borders pretty freely. Support will come from local acts Wednesday and Part Time Musicians. Venue is Mongkol RCA Studio (RCA, 095-565-6954). Gig, courtesy of SUPERSWEET Live!, will start at 8pm, so don't be late. Tickets are B800 advance, or B950 on the door; limited to 350, so buy if you're worried about missing out. Apartment Khunpa are playing down the road at Cosmic Cafe (RCA Block C, Rama IX Road, 081-304-6907) for B200 for an alternative option.
DJ SET
The With Love guys have another deck wizard in town tomorrow (Oct 19) in Marasco. Based in Hawaii, the guy is associated with the West Coast sound of the US which has taken him all over the place, now to Bangkok. Party is on at their usual spot Glow (96/4-5 Sukhumvit Soi 23, 02-261-4446, www.glowbkk.com), which is still serving it up cosy, smoky and late. Entry is B350 with a drink. Go for a midnight arrival.
ART OPENING
More art openings tomorrow (Oct 19) with the launch of exhibition Animalism Experimental Art by Limo. This one features the work of Pratran Komonhirun, who is fusing the old ideas and fables of the traditional regional religion with modern concepts (according to Google translate, anyway). It's on at Midnice Gallery (Chok Chai 4 Soi 18, Lat Phrao, 086-282-0282), that opened up just a few months ago. Art will be up for a month.
