Among K-beauty brands, Sulwhasoo has its roots in traditional Korean medicine that has been merged with modern technology to develop herbal beauty prescriptions.

Harmonizen Regenerating Cream is available exclusively at Sulwhasoo’s Central Chidlom counter.

Not only ginseng, a host of Korean herbs are used to make premium skincare that encourages a harmony of "sang-seng", or opposite energies, to promote healthy skin.

The newly launched Harmonizen Regenerating Cream features Salvia miltiorrhiza or danshen, whose red root is used in traditional herbal medicine for cardiovascular disease. The herb is also combined with ginseng to treat skin infection and chronic skin diseases.

Modern-day research has been conducted to prove its traditional uses in treating diseases whereas skin science aims at proving its anti-ageing and anti-inflammatory properties.

Sulwhasoo claims being the first to bottle it into the new beauty cream. This danshen variety comes from Korea where the herb is claimed to show a six- to seven-times stronger effect on the skin compared to Chinese danshen.

The formula also features white and red ginseng, the latter combined with danshen in a capsule technology developed jointly with the University of Pennsylvania and University of Illinois

The efficacy of the cream is enhanced by massaging it into the skin with the hand-crafted spatula made with obsidian, a material rich in silica, to reduce the oxidation of herbs.

Sulwhasoo claims that eight weeks of clinical testing found that this herbal skin treatment helped improve six signs of ageing, making it possible for your skin to look 10 years younger.

Production of this premium formula is limited to 400 jars a month, and only 100 are available at Sulwhasoo counters in Bangkok to mark the brand's first anniversary in Thailand. Other celebratory items include powder compacts with Korean art-inspired packaging.

The Korean brand opened its first counter here last October and within one year has expanded to seven counters, with the latest opening at Central Chaeng-wattana on Saturday.

First anniversary items— ShineClassic powder and make-up compact with a Prunus mume flower motif.
