His Majesty the King has ordered the extension of the royal mourning period for His Holiness the late Supreme Patriarch of Thailand, Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara Suvaddhana Mahathera to 30 days, according to a statement issued Friday morning by the Royal Household Bureau.
The statement said the King had acknowledged the death of His Holiness with deep sorrow. His Majesty instructed the extension of the mourning period for palace officials from 15 to 30 days, so they must wear black until Nov 23.
It also said that the Supreme Patriarch's body should lie in state at Phra Tamnak Petch at Wat Bowon Niwet in Bangkok.
His Holiness died of a blood infection at Chulalongkorn Hospital Thursday evening at the age of 100 years.
