Fuel leak grounds THAI flight in Japan

Fuel leak grounds THAI flight in Japan

A fuel leak in the wing tank of a Thai Airways International plane has delayed a flight due to leave Sapporo, Japan, for Bangkok on Wednesday morning.

THAI president Sorajak Kasemsuvan said a routine pre-departure inspection detected a fuel leak from a valve in the plane's wing.

Flight TG671, a Boeing 777-300, was immediately postponed pending repairs to the aircraft. The flight was due to depart at 10.55am local time and arrive in Bangkok at 4.45pm.

He said the spare part was being delivered to Sapporo from Haneda airport.

All passengers were being taken care of with food and drinks, Mr Sorajak added, insisting there was nothing unusual about the incident, which could occur with any plane or airline.

According to an update on the Thai Airways website, the flight has been rescheduled to depart at 3pm local time.
