Magician wins Breeders' Cup Turf

Magician, trained by Aidan O'Brien and ridden by Ryan Moore, stormed past The Fugue in the finishing straight to win the $3 million Breeders' Cup Turf on Saturday.

The Fugue, the John Gosden-trained filly trying her luck against the males in the 1 1/2-mile race on the turf track at Santa Anita, had moved into the lead under William Buick at the top of the stretch.

But she couldn't hold off the hard-charging Magician, who led the second European one-two of the day and accounted for a fifth victory for trans-Atlantic invaders in the 30th edition of the Breeders' Cup with three races remaining.

Indy Point, trained by Richard Mandella and ridden by Gary Stevens, was third.
